Hey there, Jen here!

I've got over a decade of graphic design experience, but over the past 5 years I've had the pleasure of working for Houston Methodist. Below you'll find five examples and summaries of campaigns and projects that I've completed during my tenure at this 25,000+ employee hospital system.

Creekside Comprehensive Care Center

In-clinic Tearsheet & Digital Large Format Hospital Displays

The Primary Care Group requested a campaign for their new Comprehensive Care Center in Creekside which involved the creation of 9 large format digital screens that are displayed throughout each of the eight major hospitals and a tearsheet for patients in every satellite clinic location. The tearsheet is a 8.5”x5.5” pad with a simple design that gives the patient a quick look into the services provided. For each of the larger display screens there were more details provided on each service individually to give a better understanding to the patient while they wait for their appointment at the clinic.

To highlight each service provided, an icon was needed to appropriately depict details from within the services content, as well as a corresponding photo for each of the larger display screens. When determining the look and feel, it was important to keep the viewer engaged but not overwhelmed with the amount of information being presented in every piece. To mitigate visual fatigue, the text was reduced as much as possible to allow for eye catching visuals depicting a scenario in which the patient might find themselves.

2025 Annual Nurses Gala

In-clinic Tearsheet & Digital Large Format Hospital Displays

Every year Houston Methodist hosts the annual Nurses Gala celebrating both the Magnet™ recognition and all of the nurses across our hospital. For 2025, the decided theme was “masquerade" and the request for an elevated elegance to accompany the informative content. Of three different options presented to the client, this sparkly mask was chosen to be used throughout all materials.

The long list of designs needed included 12 table tents, 4 different save the dates & invites (regular & VIP), 3 horizontal corrugated plastic signs with grommets, 6 foam core vertical signs, and a themed PowerPoint presentation. Due to the number of pieces we collaborated with the client and a print vendor closely to ensure the print materials arrived in a timely fashion with no errors.

2024 Nutcracker Market

Large scale vinyl printing, floor and window decals, and activation bar with illustrated storage walls

With over 92,000 attendees, the Nutcracker Market is a massive one weekend shopping event at NRG Center in Houston. Houston Methodist hosts two large booths in two of the lobbies of the main halls where they distribute free tote bags for those who opt in for marketing texts/emails and downloading the My Methodist application in the app store. There are 20 lobby columns, 12 rotunda columns, 24 floor and window decals, and two massive activation bars with storage for the thousands of tote bags that are distributed.

From setting up files to working with the vendor onsite during actual set-up, the careful execution of each design must be meticulously inspected. Color discrepancies and mistakes are easier to see when a viewer is literally dwarfed by the height and scale of the designs. Thankfully the work paid off and we received over 10,000 opt-ins as we gave away the same number in tote bags.

Physician Rosters

Maintenance and printing of multi-page high quality brochures

From 2019 to current day 2025 the responsibility of maintaining and updating our physician rosters has been a lengthy and thorough process. Each of the 20+ rosters features either a list of specialty physicians for a hospital service line or of primary care physicians for one of the 9 regions the sprawling Houston area covers.

These rosters feature ever-changing doctor specialties, educations, titles, locations, portraits, qualifications, and other updates that come in waves of hundreds of edits twice a year or more per roster. It is a collaborative effort to maintain portraits, maps, recognitions, and other files to the most up to date versions. Due to the frequent updates and minute details, meticulous file management is key to maintaining these documents accurately and to the highest quality possible.

2022 CEO Holiday Card

Bifold card with spot-UV treatment and die cut feature

Each year the CEO holiday card presents an opportunity to play with various exciting paper textures and finishes on a printed piece that will sit on the desk or fridge of many physicians across the city. For my design, I chose an economical direction that featured a snow globe cutout feature on the front flap of the card. Once the card is opened, the reader gets a full view of the snowglobe scene and the holiday message from the CEO is revealed.

While determining the look and feel of this card it was important to stay within brand guidelines while maintaining interest. The Houston Methodist blue was captured in the sparkly Stardream - Lapis Lazuli 105#C paper we found and the spot UV treatment gave the simple illustrations more depth and dimension. The final result was an elegantly clever and simple design choice that helped the client stay well within their budget.
